e.l.f mini haul

Hello there,

I've been so excited waiting to get my e.l.f order that as soon as I knew it had arrived I just wanted to leave the office and run home to check it out.

So back to e.l.f. I decided to take the plunge and bought a few things I had had my eye on for a while now. To top it all off I was even able to get the Spring Collection which was a treat!

From left to right there is the Blending Eye Brush, Studio Makeup Lock & Set, Studio Makeup Mist & Set, Small Tapered Brush, Mineral Infused Face Primer* (Radiant Glow) and All Over Colour Stick - Golden Peach.

*I did want to originally buy the face primer in Tone Adjusting Green as I get redness around my nose and on my cheeks. It was out of stock as is the Daily Brush Cleanser! Doh!

Next is the Spring Collection which I got for free. From top to bottom there is a Zit Eraser, Primer Eyershadow (Silver), Cream Blush in Vixen, Eyeshadow in Sweet and a Mineral Lip Gloss in Sorrority Girl.

Just a close up of the Makeup Lock & Seal kit. Equipped with the product itself, a small brush and a pot to pour the product into. Use with eyeliner, shadow, lipsticks, blush and brow colour to enhance and provide a smdudge-proof lock & seal.

My bin after unwrapping everything! Lovin' it. So far I have tried the brushes, Mist & Set and the Zit Eraser. The Tapered brush is perfect for setting those hard to reach areas such as the eyes, around the nose, chin and in general for T-Zone areas. I will definately try out my other goodies on the weekend as I am not working this Saturday. Horray!

Overall I am very happy with this loot! Got some much wanted items and must say thank you to Paul for picking and packing my order! :)

Avon Campaign 6 Mini-Haul

Hi guys,

So I hope you are having a great weekend! I had planned to publish this post on Friday however I've been so caught up with work and so tired once I get home that I haven't been able to put it together till now. All images seen below were taken from Google.

The best way to create a flawless finish is to use good brushes. There are so many brands out there that we can sometimes fall into the trap of spending ludicrous amounts of money.

I had previously bought a make up brush set off ebay but found that the bristles were quite rough and I wasn't able to transfer the make up efficiently onto my face. I already have a Real Techniques face brush which is amazing at buffing any foundation into your face and would have purchased more however the price isn't quite economically friendly.

So I've purchased four new brushes which I am quite happy with. Below is an image of the current range of make up brushes by Avon.

I've purchased Number 1, face brush, Number 3, blush brush, Number 7, retractable brush and also the concealer brush as seen below.

Before the bristles were all black and seemed stiffer. This new range seems to have a new DNA altogether. I was quite surprised with the retractable lip brush. An ingenious bit of architecture which will help preserve the bristles.

You actually have to push the brush outwards for the lip brush to pop out. Mind you I was a bit confused at first as I couldn't figure it out. :S Soon solved that problem. The other brushes have a flimsy plastic brush guard which I am using to keep the bristles intact and will have to do for now. I might invest in a brush roll to keep them stored.

I also purchased a new blush and two new lipsticks. I have a sneaky suspicion that coral is going to the new trend this season. Color Trend, designed for the younger ladies, has some fun coloured items and I chose the blusher in Flora and lipstick in Smoochable.

The Color Trend lipsticks have a new bullet design which is quite cute and the colour is a nice pinky tone. Not too in your face so it is perfect for the office.

The Ultra Colour Lipstick Satin in Ripe Papaya is a gorgeously creamy lipstick in a corally tone. All Avon lipsticks have the brand name embossed into the lipstick bullet which is a nice touch.

Lastly the blush I chose it also a corally tone. I will always love the bronzed beauty look but this summer it will all be about expressing youth and vitality.
I have been searching for a foundation for ages and have tried Avon foundations, Wake Me Up and even a MAC foundation. The best tip I have learnt from the Youtube Make up Guru's is that our skin is made up of different tones and no one shade will ever truly fit. The CC cream I bought is in the shade Nude. It is just rightly balanced all I need now is something to wear underneath to diminish the redness which occurs naturally in my skin and even more so from the blemishes on my cheeks. Once my e.l.f order arrives I will be able to put that to the test.
All in all I am quite content with this lot and will look to use them more often. Within the next few days I should get my e.l.f order and am excited about the Spring Collection as I have no idea what this collection consists of.

"It is never selfish nor vain to create the best version of yourself for yourself"

New Project

Hi guys,

I am so happy to be writing to you about this very special movement I have recently joined. Thanks to UKFashionIntern I have been hooked up with BitchyOnlineUk for whom I shall be the Editor of Lifestyle & Stories.

BitchyOnlineUK has been set up to empower women and essentially be a go-to hub of knowledge. It will cover all sectors such as beauty, fashion, lifestyle and stories, sport and gossip. As we approach the "coming of age" period in our lives and see others after us we want to create a legacy of sorts that future generations will be able to look to for guidance and support.

The website is set to launch in May and in the run up I shall be looking for bloggers who would love to contribute to such a movement. We will have positions for regular bloggers and for guest bloggers. So keep tuned to our social media platforms.

This is, after all, a blog made by women for women and what counts are your voices and opinions. If anyone reading this is interested in joining the movement then please forward any samples of your writing or blog sites to the following email: jenny@bitchyonlineuk.com.

I look forward to hearing from you and will keep you regularly updated on our progress.

Sneak Peak coming soon May 2014

Stay blessed xoxo

Bake & Bitch

Good Morning guys,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, relaxed, ate some good food and enjoyed great company. I thought I would write something a little bit different today. A 'Bake & Bitch'.

I have always loved to bake since my teen years and lately it has been my 'go-to' when needing to unwind or simply bake something for an occasion. I love it, my family and friends love it and so do my co-workers. Having discovered Buddy and Carlo's Bakery on TLC has only given me more ideas to try out. I am quite fortunate that my Portuguese heritage is rich in desert recipes from puddings, to cakes to sweets.

Below are a few images of my previous adventures...

Above is a perfect example of a plain sponge cake decorated with pink icing flowers. I then sprinkled on white millions :)

Taking the simple plain sponge and spicing it up a bit by covering it in chocolate icing and then sprinkling coconut shreds on top.

And for the more indulgent of you readers I have a special treat...

Devil's Chocolate Cake topped with chocolate icing and Maltesers. I bought Betty Crocker's cake mix and once the cake was made simply had fun decorating it. I initially thought to cover the top of the cake in my little chocolate tufts but soon realised after covering the cake that I didn't have enough icing left. So in came the Maltesers.

Not too sure? Well here is a simple recipe to help you get started.

  • 100g of flour
  • 100g of sugar
  • 100g of butter
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 1 tbsp baking soda (if using plain flour)
  • 1 tbso vanilla or any other flavouring of your choice, can also use orange zest*
  • pinch of salt
* The flavouring is optional as you can use whatever you fancy. This is a recipe from a childhood baking book and I usually change it to suit my needs. To make a decent sized cake you may need to double the ingredients. As I usually add something sweet to the cake such as icing or even eat it with fruits I cut down the amount of sugar I use.

You will need the following tools;

  • Mixer, unless you want to get rid of your bingo wings and go old school
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Measuring scales
  • Separate bowls x 2
  • Baking mould
  • Baking parchment paper
  • Skewer
  • Oven gloves
  • Serving platter or flat plate
Separate the yolk from the white keeping them both in separate bowls and whisk the white till they form strong peaks. You can usually tell when the whites are ready when the colour goes from translucent to glossy white. Eventually if you keep whisking and tip the bowl upside down they won't budge. That's when you know they are ready. You can set these aside and work on the other ingredients.

Mix the butter and sugar till no bumps are left. Then you can add the yolks, and slowly start to add in the dry ingredients. If you wish to make a chocolate cake you can always add in cocoa powder at this stage. The mix may start to get tough to work with and at this stage you want to add in your whites. I would recommend adding them in two stages.

We have all heard chefs on TV caution us not to beat the whites into the mix or else risk loosing all the air bubbles. Bullshit! Just fold them in until the whites are fully incorporated and you will be fine. Once your mix is ready prep your mould. You may want to turn on your oven usually to 180 degrees Celsius.

You can use any mould you want and a simple technique I use to prevent the cake from sticking to the mould is to butter the mould liberally and then coat it with flour. If the base of your mould is flat you can butter it and then cut out a cartouche (round disk) of baking parchment paper and placing that on the base.

Once you pour in your mix bang the base on the table or floor thrice to remove so that the mix settles. You can then let it rest for a few minutes before bunging it in the oven.

When it finally does go into the oven place it on the middle shelf and ensure the heat is initially coming from both sides. After the thirty minute mark you may want to check on the progress of your cake. Take a skewer and prick the centre of the cake if the skewer comes out wet then your cake is not ready.

TIP: The reason you prick the centre of the cake as this is the region which rises the most. If this region is cooked thumb rule is that the rest of your cake is also cooked.

TIP: Place your cake in the middle of the shelf to ensure that it bakes evenly.

TIP: The more times you open your oven the more heat you will lose. Try to limit the times you open your oven by checking on your cake at the thirty minute interval and possibly the forty-forty five minute interval.

After your cake is cooked you can turn the heat down a touch, change the setting to grill or heat from above and move the cake to the higher shelf so that your cake will become golden on top. This should only take a few minutes.

When your cake is cooked you can take it out, turn off your oven and leave it somewhere to cool down. I usually place a towel on top to keep in some of the heat and also to prevent any pesky insects from getting to my cake.

TIP: You want your cake to cool down slowly. If it cools to fast then it will most probably sink.

Once it is ready use a butter knife or even your skewer to loosen the cake from the edges and then use a serving platter or flat plate and placing it on top of the mould use a quick flipping action to transfer the cake from the mould to your serving platter/flat plate.

You can then decorate it as you wish!

And now to bitch. Grab your best mate, friend, aunty or local town gossip. Bung on the kettle and cut a slice of cake!

March Birchbox

It has arrived! Yes, my March Lulu Guiness colaboration box has arrived. Right now I am enjoying some music from Paolo Nutini and some stripy candy that was included this monthly box.

So to help welcome Spring all Birchbox subscribers received the following goodies...

  • £20 off voucher on any purchases over £100 online or at any Lulu Guinness store.
  • Voucher to try the new Gimme Brow by Benefit and get a Makeupper?
  • Small sample of Christopher Wicks English Laundry No. 7 scent.
  • Molton Brown Rhubarb & Rose Replenishing Hand Cream
  • Benefit's Stay Don't Stray primer in the shade Light/Medium
  • Dr. Brandt's Pores No More Pore Refiner
  • Korres Citrus Body Milk

Besides getting some candy to satisfy my sweet tooth, which has Lulu Birchbox squeezed into the design,  the item I am most excited about if Benefit's primer. I have heard some great reviews on the Benefit's products in general and besides my oily nose I do get oily eye lids. It was even one of Lulu's picks.

This month I thought I would take inspiration from the goodies in the box to create a make up look. The Birchbox bag this month is a minty green and taking into account that Easter is around the corner I thought of this...

My Spring/Summer 2014 look! Of course this has a strong Easter theme influence however taking the simple template and swapping some of the colours can take this look to the next level. I have the 120 Fraulein Eyeshadow Palette which is a great inexpensive tool which can create a diverse number of looks.

You can easily get any number of template's online by searching Google. I chose this one as there is enough space to mess about and you can also note down the products you use across the face as well as take down any additional notes.

So many colours!

As I want this to be a fun, light and pretty look I stuck with three colours. Mint green, pink/purple and yellow. The mint green I used as a base colour across the lid and slightly winged outwards. The yellow I kept to the inner corner and extended it a bit to the brow bone. The pink/puple was used to create a cut crease but I blended it out so as not to create such a drastic block of colour. To top this eye look off I used Eyeko Skinny Liner in Black to create a double winged look. You can use a matte or shimmery white/pearl colour in between the flicks to mimic the black and white striped hard candy.

I would use Avon's New Luxe Mascara in Black simply because I am in love with it. However, please note, do not go overboard with the lashes. This is meant to be a soft look. So NO contouring except for the soft pink blush on the cheeks. If you wish you can use additional products to create a peachy complexion.

My little extra would be the rhinestones or if you are really looking to go the extra mile you could also use fimo canes. To make it a bit trippy you could glue some slices to fake lashes. Klairedelys did a great look for her Seven Deadly Sins series - Gluttony.

You can find her here: http://www.klairedelys.com/2013/09/06/seven-deadly-sins-gluttony/
Finally I would stick to a neutral peach colour on the lips purely because I want to keep the look simple and wearable. If I were to switch it up a bit I would use a hot pink/fuchsia coloured lipstick and maybe a brightly colour eye liner instead of the black.

So my advice for Spring/Summer...have fun with colour.

Fierce Bodies un-packaging!

Hi guys,

So it's mid-week and whilst most people are still finding the man power to trudge through the rest of the week I am still taking my holiday break. I've been to Lewisham with my mum and sister and picked up a few things plus two The Walking Dead novels (will write a separate post later) and to my surprise once I got home I found the following...

Fierce Bodies is an American based company that manufactures natural cosmetics and personal care products. Being an eczema sufferer and wanting to opt for the healthier lifestyle choice Fierce Bodies are just the kind of company that I want to associate with.

As soon as I opened the package these sweet aroma's wafted out. Pure heaven I say! Inside I had three products, four stickers and a tip card on helping my products to last longer. I've already affixed the sticker to my laptop. Their motto is like none other I've ever come across...

"All bodies are fierce bodies"

The first item is the Scalp Oil. Now this was indeed a treat. I have quite a few hair oils in my room to name a few; V05, Oriflame split ends remedy and one I got in my February Birchbox. However these are all for use on the mid-end sections of the hair which for me one of my problem areas. My current hair woes include thinning and loss of hair and a serious case of split ends! This little beauty will help keep my scalp moisturised and hopefully help my existing and any new hairs beautiful. It smells great and isn't greasy!

Next in my package is the Hair Mud. Not a product I have used before it has an odd fragrance which I can't quite place which might be down to the beeswax. Again it is a smooth product which melts away leaving no icky residue.

I was so happy to get this beauty Lip Shine as I have an obsession with lip balms! It has a soft creamy texture which leaves my chappy lips feeling smooth and supple. Great for carrying in my bag or even pocket. As my nails are quite long I'm delighted that I won't need to walk around with a q-tip to dig out the product as I am currently doing with my Oriflame Tender Care Lip Balm.

All in all I was quite surprised by the products I received and their sizes!

You can check out Fierce Bodies online at; http://fiercebodies.com/
You can also find them on Facebook at; https://www.facebook.com/fiercebodies
And if you want to go the extra mile find them on twitter; https://twitter.com/fiercebodies

Please follow, retweet, share and comment to spread the good word about this great company. Together let's work to make all bodies fierce bodies!

Confidence

Confidence is not something that can be given to you with designer clothes, the latest make-up or classy jewellery. It is something that is earned through hard work and dedication. Whether you are as skinny as a stick or as round as a whale we all have to work towards something.

My problem has always been that I am a dreamer. Not that dreaming is necessarily bad. Dreaming of a good summer vacation or what your first kiss will be like. It is however when it stops you from getting up and doing something. Depression, mental illness, being anti-social or a home-body. There are so many labels to describe how we feel and behave that I think we have now just accepted our doubts, fears and confusions as a disease that needs to be treated with medicine and therapy.

Although I am pretty sure the latter have done miracles for a wide number of people in this world has anyone ever just considered taking a walk? Reading a book? Baking a cake? Or just standing in the rain, feeling the cold and letting it freeze your body in that moment so that all you can think about is how numb you're becoming. Till finally it just shuts out the rest of the world even if only for a moment.

In a world that never stops turning we need these moments to let go and to let all the pieces crumble so that when we do pick them up and puzzle them together they, hopefully, start to make sense. The pain starts to ebb a little and the fogginess clears so that you can finally see what is standing right in front of you.

Confidence is not something that can be given. Confidence is something that is earned with hard work and dedication.

My next, possibly two, posts shall be about what is troubling me lately. The primary being my recent hair thinning and loss. My mother was diagnosed with aloepecia not too long ago after years of hair thinning and loss. But it seems she has finally found a treatment (hair growth pills) that are actually working. Which gives me hope that these will help me too. Not to sound like a hypocrite but these do appear to be the bomb. Everything else we can sort out without the intervention of hair food pills.

Keep tuned and stay blessed.

My First Wish List

Being connected to my favourite beauty companies means that I am constantly seeing updates of new products being launched and oldies yet golden trusted ones. For a while now I have wanted to try a few products often keeping an eye out to see if a sale is on or any special offers.

I know we all have the one (or several) items which we haven't been able to resist. And upon purchase may have used it only once (or never, apart from a quick swatch). To name a few would be a gorgeous plum coloured lipstick from Avon and Sleek's Molten Metal eye cream duo.

Trying out new things involves change. Changing our habit of sticking to tried and tested products to test new waters. I hope to be doing a lot of that this year. Below is my very first "Wish List" comprised of simplistic and some extravagant items.

I've followed Michelle Phan for ever! ^^ And have followed her growth. Now she is recognised as part of the new age beauty vloggers. em her makeup range is nothing short of amazing. Above is the Life Palette a star in a wide range of gorgeous items. I would definitely love to get my hands on this beauty!

Next would have to be Illmasqua's Liquid Metal (Shade Pheomena). I've seen video clips and I must admit I am starstruck. This is an item which I would imagine a makeup artist would keep in their case when doing Lady Gaga or Beyoncé or Katy Perry's makeup.

The Real Techniques brushes are high on my list of wants. I already have the face brush which I love. Only shame is that I am yet to find my perfect foundation fit. My friend Sonia has found hers in MAC and also uses a Real Technique brush which does give that airbrushed look. I wouldn't go for the whole collection but definitely the core items. Powder and blush and some eye shadow brushes.

The Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow in Comex Gold from stila is out of this world. I first saw this in action in #givegoodface #Jordan Liberty's Cleopatra tutorial. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8F6CqDF0WA) In total here are 19 different colours from which to chose from. Oh be still my beating heart...

I have been trying to get my hands on e.l.f's Daily Brush cleanser for ages! I previously used a tip I learnt from Michelle Phan, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVdciJkmb7o), to mix equal quantities of olive oil and fairy washing up liquid and it works! The gunk that came out of my brushes was outstanding. It just goes to show that even if we do prep our faces we will only be dirtying it with bacteria and dead skin all over again.

Out of all the items mentioned above the most practical would be the daily brush cleanser and the makeup brushes. However that doesn't stop me from desiring the entire wish list. Maybe one day I will try them and even write a review. Until then ... well I can always dream.

Late Night Blogging

Good Evening lovelies...

It has been a while since I last posted and I wanted to obviously explain as to why. I recently opened a Wix website from which I have posted a few things which I thought would be a better medium to which publish my thoughts and reviews. It has most impressive benefits such as ease of use, aesthetic qualities and also allows for a more social media friendly presentation.

I will try to run both to see which one you lovely readers find more interesting. So please do comment, share and like.

P.S: I am writing this post from my brand new laptop! Absolutely loving it!

Please check the link below to be directed to my Wix website. On there you will find a review of my very first Birchbox.

I will also look into re-doing my twitter account so that we may stay connected where ever you happen to be!

See you soon xoxo

A bit of vintage.

So I have set up my twitter account and it is 21st_Guinevere. Striking up conversations and getting people to help me reach my 1k in followers has been my goal. Right up until the Wifi started failing.

So I have a smartphone, tablet and a new laptop and once again I find myself on my mother's PC. Right back where it all started.

After striking up a conversation with tweeter hannahavon_xo about our current favourite Avon products Avon_UK asked the following...

"If you ever come across an old product be sure to take a photo for us, some of those old bottles are sooo pretty! :) x"

From left to right we have Wild Country (Year unknown), Fantasque (???), Night Musk (Possibly from 1982) and Friktion (1999).

From left to right we have Honeysuckle (1963) and Song of Christmas (1980). Also a sample bottle of Sweet Honesty (2005).

And lastly one of the most interesting shaped bottles Smart Move (Date unknown).

Out of all these old Avon perfume's my favourite is Honeysuckle. The packaging and colour theme of the box as well as the shape of the bottle and lid are a literal epitome of all that is vintage and chic. Something you might find on Marilyn Monroe or Dita Von Tesse's drawer table.

Please like, share, comment, retweet and favour! If I find anymore I will definitely post a picture and any information about them I can get.

I'm on twitter!

After sending a few emails I was finally received a reply from Fraulein 308. They informed me that I would need to have 1,000 followers in order to send me beauty products to test and write reviews on.

Could you lovely readers please help me? Simply spread the word. My twitter account is 21st_Guinevere. I promise to follow everyone who helps me :)

Highlight of the week!

So there goes another week. At least I am not working this Saturday. So sitting here at my mum's PC with my baby sister Natasha I will recap my highlight of the week!

I always enjoy checking out elf's facebook page and today I have been having fun writing tips and answering fans questions. From "what bronzer do I use on fair skin?" to "how do I keep a red lip throughout the day". I had so much fun and was delighted with the feedback I got. Here are Screenshots from my phone!

I had just got home and was sitting on the sofa just replying to the questions posted on the elf page. I was also surprised to see that the guys doing the live show even gave me a shout out!

Re-watching Episode 6! Link is http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/43518159 Thanks Amy and guys for the shout out!

I even pulled up the UStream live video and got to see the guys in the action. Mind you I had already missed half an hour.

Highlights of the show were;

1. the getting the shout out!
2. Make Up Artist Heidi replying to a majority of the questions posted with how-to's and what's best.
3. Actual live interaction with the guys!

During the whole month of February elf is offering FREE shipping on orders over £15. Perfect chance to fill up that shopping cart.

After such a stressful week this was just the thing I needed to cheer me up! Tomorrow I shall definitely be shopping online at elf!

Weekend summary

Weekend is almost over and here is a short summary of my week.

Managed to get through the week in one piece. My main stressing agent was my Manager not being around. So tomorrow and Tuesday shall be a bit trying.

Finally saw Shakira and Rihanna's collaboration. Loved it! Also came across an old photo of Paul Walker (Pleasantville). Watched part of the movie today. Oddball is all I have to say.

And finally The Walking Dead is back on in 9 days! Cannot wait to see Norman Reedus and the gang back on TV.

Lastly, amongst the new books that shall be adourning my bedside cabinet...Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
